We start the fishing season off in early June as the water in the Chesapeake Bay warms and the summertime species begin to arrive in our local waters. Among the first of our summertime target species are Cobia, we typically have good fishing for them as soon as they begin to arrive in June. We have an excellent Cobia fishery in the bay and enjoy sight casting and light tackle jigging for these tackle testing brutes. June can also offer good fishing for Sheepshead, Drum and Bluefish.
By July most all of our summertime migratory species have arrived in our local waters, and we see some great fishing for big Red Drum and Mackerel in addition to the species mentioned above. We have a great fishery for jumbo Bull Red Drum in the Chesapeake Bay and are able to enjoy sight casting as well as light tackle jigging for these brutes. They are amongst the most sought after game fish on the East Coast. Our summertime variety is typically in full swing from July through the end of September.
As the first fronts start to move in and cool our waters our finned summertime residents begin to migrate out of the Chesapeake Bay. September can offer some of the best fishing of the year for Red Drum, Sheepshead and Cobia. October typically offers good fishing for Red Drum of all sizes and Speckled Trout.
In November as the water cools our focus shifts to light tackle jigging and casting for Striped Bass AKA Rockfish. Another one of the East Coast's most prized species of game fish. Finding a school of Rockfish feeding in open water under birds is quite a thrill and can provide for hours of wintertime fun.
